Built for the Pacific National Lumbermill superintendent, this house was born into the boom-town sawmill life of National, in the young state of Washington, 1910. Economics, strikes and a country's change of heart conspired to bust the boom and today National lies lost in the woods, abandoned to memory. Born into that time came another idea, carried by John Muir through this place to the summit of Mt. Rainier in 1888. The idea took root and became Mt. Rainier National Park in 1899.
Today this grand country home holding the memory of those old growth trees built into its walls lives on as Mountain Meadows Inn Bed & Breakfast—welcoming you to Mt. Rainier National Park in the Cascade Mountains!
While staying at the Inn, enjoy the fascinating John Muir and National Park displays, authentic Northwest Coast Indian basketry and artifacts. Create your own adventure using our complete set of maps and guide books. Guests are raving about the experience of their 30 minute stroll on our new Nature Trail that Harry built and maintained over the last 8 years! Without divulging the surprise, we'll give you a hint. His artistic genius brought the beauty of our 11 acres alive with habitat for small creatures, birds and the spirits of the "First People". Come and see for yourself!
After your adventure-filled day exploring our glorious area, come home to Mountain Meadows Inn where your spacious, comfortable room awaits. Take a relaxing soak in the spa, or rest on the porch watching the hummingbirds while recalling memories of your day. Watch resident deer and elk browse on willow just before sundown. When night fall pays its visit, enjoy the stars away from city lights, and watch the meteor showers from the lounge chairs.
Awaken to the scent of our own "House Blend" coffee and breakfast delights! The Innkeepers at Mountain Meadows Inn are both well versed in the culinary arts. Harry & Michelle Latimer have been delighting their guests with many wonderful creations such as Belgian Waffles with fresh local berries in season with Michelle's HOMEMADE BERRY SYRUP, (to die for!) or Garden Souffle with fresh organic local basil; served with Mountain Meadows Inn Coffee Cake, or Eggs Benedict; complete with deliciously perfect Hollandaise Sauce, all served with seasonal fresh fruits, orange juice, fragrant English tea and serious coffee.
