Built for the Pacific National Lumbermill superintendent, this house was born into the boom-town sawmill life of National, in the young state of Washington, 1910. Economics, strikes and a country’s change of heart conspired to bust the boom and today National lies lost in the woods, abandoned to memory. Born into that time came another idea, carried by John Muir through this place to the summit of Mt. Rainier in 1888. The idea took root and became Mt. Rainier National Park in 1899. Today this grand country home holding the memory of those trees built into its walls lives on as Mountain Meadows Inn Bed & Breakfast—welcoming you to Mt. Rainier National Park in the Cascade Mountains!
While staying at the Inn, enjoy the fascinating John Muir and National Park displays, authentic Northwest Coast Indian basketry and artifacts, and a 1000 volume nature library. Create your own adventure using our complete set of maps and guide books. Guests are raving about the experience of their 30 minute stroll on our new Nature Trail that Harry built over the last 5 years! Without divulging the surprise, we'll give you a hint. His artistic genius brought the beauty of our 11 acres alive with habitat for small creatures, birds and the spirits of the "First People". Come and see for yourself!
